Some dentists say that they are seeing an increase in patients with a painful jaw condition which may be associated with the osteoporosis drug Fosamax. The condition, known as osteonecrosis of the jaw, or jaw necrosis, causes the death of jawbone tissue. Patients with this extremely painful condition may eventually need to have their jawbone removed in order to this potential side effect of Fosamax. |

According to the results of a new study, patients taking the osteoporosis drug Actonel are better protected from fractures than patients who take Fosamax. The results of the study were published in the journal Osteoporosis International. |

A woman in Kentucky has filed a Fosamax lawsuit against Merck & Co., the manufacturer of the osteoporosis drug. Joyce Raisor alleges that taking Fosamax caused her to develop a painful condition known as osteonecrosis of the jaw, or jaw necrosis. |

The Food and Drug Administration has announced that the osteonecrosis drug Fosamax and other drugs in its class should carry a warning about the jaw condition osteonecrosis of the jaw, or jaw necrosis. The call for warnings about the risk of Fosamax side effects was made as a result of a recent study highlighting the link between the drug and jaw necrosis. |
